Cries of Anguish

The main finding of this study of households in Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu is the following: Poor parents are desperate about the education future of their children and fully conscious of the devastating toll that prolonged school closure has taken on the learning, socio-emotional development and behaviour of their children.

This is the first study, to our knowledge, of parents’ experiences and perceptions, after the opening of schools. It is our hope that policy makers and administrators will also reflect this level of deep understanding about the critical situation on the ground while developing their policies and programmes.

  1. Yes. Obviously we see a tremendous changes among children. Irregularity on personal care, behavior, studies, using mobile phones, eating habits, respecting elders etc..
These are all not exaggerated , but the real situation we faced each and every moment in our school.

  2. Majority of the parents had a challenging time. They were to earn, manage home and take care of kids throughout. Lot of anxiety could be seen among parents as they were worried about a future of the kids. In general it is a fact that majority of the parents cannot cater to the needs of a active student. Added to this online classes lead to certain behavioural changes like mobile addiction, behaviour in issues with parents neighbours and friends, eating habits, socialization and so on. It is a truth to be accepted that many kids literally forgot what they learnt in the schools. It will be a herculent task for the Teachers to identify the gaps in the learning level of each student. We could also witness that many younger kids were not ready to go back to the schools and their parents had to literally drag them up to the school compound.
Definitely I am of the opinion that the next entire curriculum year is going to be a challenge for all the teachers throughout the country.
Latest hope that something happens positively in this direction.
