NCEE co-founder Gurumurthy Kasinathan writes about how centralised examinations are anathema to the spirit and purpose of education.

After a brief battle between Education department and schools association, the Karnataka High Court intervened and decided to move ahead with standardized examinations, even though academicians have continuously opposed common examinations, as they promote rote learning, discourage formative assessments, and ignore the differences in learner contexts. Furthermore, they encourage teaching to the test instead of teaching the learner, leading to a focus on syllabus completion over learning.
