Dear friends

Thank you for your participation in the working group meeting on August 3,
2021. It was a wonderful experience to listen to the many interventions,
ideas and insights.

Based on the various inputs shared in the two meetings, we have compiled
below a set of action items/ next steps that this group can work on.
Request all of you to review and share your comments / suggestions as well
as indicate which of the areas each one of you would be able to take up/
work on.

The starting point would be to document as many interventions as possible -
request all of you to send the documentation by this weekend (the template
is attached with this email - this is a suggested template and please feel
free to modify it as appropriate). Thank you to those who have already
shared their interventions.

* Next steps/ way forward:*

   1. Continue the documentation of initiatives undertaken by different
organizations which can then be collated into a broad 'model' or
'guidelines' document (request the filled templates to be sent by end of
this week) - a template is attached.
   2. Deconstruct the challenges of the current scenario and the impact it
has on children of different ages and examine it along the dimensions of
curriculum, pedagogies, teacher preparation and community involvement.
Creating a policy brief from the insights of this analysis would become an
use useful input for the education system.
   3. Curating a resource for parents and caregivers for supporting them in
engaging with children and support their learning
   4. Develop/ curate resources that can help teachers in developing
flexible teaching - learning strategies. The emphasis should be on
   integrating children's experiences into the teaching-learning process;
identify what children have learnt outside school and build on that rather
than merely focusing on the "syllabus". Addressing the socio-emotional
needs for children needs to be also looked into.
   5. Identifying and showcasing a few models where locally relevant and
responsive learning environments have been created with support from the
community, school teachers, civil society organizations, citizen networks,
and come up with a set of alternatives for the education system to consider
when reopening schools (could be in the form of a toolkit)
   6. Reach out to teacher education institutions and creating a network of
student teachers who would be able to work with children in their
   communities in a structured manner
   7. Form a network of govt. and private school teachers, local
authorities and teacher education institutes to reach out better to the
   community
   8. Create advocacy forums for parent/teacher communities; share
'position statements' on the different dimensions and challenges; also
serve as a platform for putting out scientifically accurate information.

Request you all to share your thoughts and comments. The next meeting will
be on August 10, Tuesday at 5 pm - meeting link is
https://b3.teacher-network.in/b/gur-g94-hyn

Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Best regards
