As you know some colleges in coastal Karnataka have prevented Muslim
women from studying, if they wore the Hijab. The issue has gotten
worse - the High Court affirmed the ban in its interim order (a
continued violation of the fundamental rights of these women).
Still worse, the interim order is being wrongly used by colleges,
police and district administration across the state, to prevent
Muslim women and girls (<a
href="https://twitter.com/KeypadGuerilla/status/1493097774887276547">teachers
also)</a> from attending colleges and schools, unless they remove
the Hijab, often in front of the school/college gate. Such a 'ban'
has spread to UP, MP etc.<br>

I am sharing a <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://tinyurl.com/educators-hijab"> statement</a> from the
<a href="https://educationemergency.net/">National Coalition on the
Education Emergency</a> (NCEE) on this issue. It is open for
endorsements from educators and child rights activists from across
the country. (Feminists groups have <a
href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeKodf_3tWc-e0l2KH60wCYqqpfEHe8yx8jikPfpiSiBtYqvw/viewform">issued
a statement</a>, so have a group of <a
href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSem49C2kE3ekicpRtKHaVYkfic15bXCmRQITa1KGMWWqcUsXA/viewform">lawyers</a>),
this statement reflects concerns pertaining to the right to
education.<br>

We will close this process by Sunday night and release to media on
Monday. A small group will try to meet the Karnataka CM and hand
over the statement early next week. <br>
